Urban Optiks Optometry Presents
Wednesday, May 9 | 4pm-7pm
San Diego's Biggest Luxury Eyewear Event Of The Year Returns!

Urban Optiks Optometry, San Diego’s premier source of luxury eyewear and unparalleled eyecare, presents its 4th Annual Raise Your Glasses Mega Vendor Trunk Show & 10th Anniversary Celebration. This year’s event will take place at the historic Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club on Wednesday, May 9 from 4-7pm.

This year, we are celebrating our 10th Year Anniversary and we’re excited to announce that Raise Your Glasses 2018 will be bigger and better than ever! Urban Optiks Optometry’s vintage-inspired eclectic-flair will come alive as we move into the largest event space we’ve had to date. Since the 1940’s, the iconic Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club has been a hot spot for social affairs and has hosted numerous celebrities including Marilyn Monroe, Bob Hope, and Frank Sinatra – just to name a few. We couldn’t think of a better place to celebrate our 10 years and are so excited that we will now join the long list of events that have graced this beautiful hotel and event space.

The evening will showcase over 20 of our high-end frame lines and unique eyewear accessory vendors in a mega trunk show experience providing a unique opportunity for attendees to see the ENTIRE collections from each vendor. There will literally be thousands of frames to view, try on and purchase.

You’ll also have an opportunity to learn about the advanced technology available at Urban Optiks as we introduce our new Eyecare Education Expo with representatives from many of our digital lens and contact lens manufacturers, as well as our exam equipment suppliers and LASIK vision correction partners.

We are excited to announce that The Vision of Children Foundation will be our charity of choice for this year’s event. Their mission is to cure hereditary childhood blindness and vision disorders, and to improve the quality of life of visually impaired individuals and their families. Learn about this very special organization and the important work they are doing in the field of research and development. Don’t miss the chance to win fabulous prizes donated by many of our community partners in our popular opportunity drawing. All proceeds will go directly to The Vision of Children Foundation.

The social affair will also feature great food, incredible craft cocktails, lots of shopping opportunities…and, of course, great fun! After the event, the party continues at The Red Fox Room – conveniently located right at the hotel – with festive piano bar entertainment and a no-host bar.

HELP US RAISE FUNDS!
MEET OUR BENEFICIARY

The Vision of Children Foundation’s mission is to cure hereditary childhood blindness and vision disorders, and to improve the quality of life of visually impaired individuals and their families.

Millions of children are born with uncorrectable vision disorders that have a devastating impact on their quality of life. They have inherited rare genetic defects from their mothers or fathers which will continue to be passed on for generations unless cures are discovered.

Since 1991, the San Diego based 501(c)(3) has funded scientists around the world, focusing on several approaches to healing the vision pathways, including induced adult stem cells, genetic reprogramming, and a medication trial with humans. Knowledge about genetic eye diseases has increased dramatically, and treatments and cures are within reach.

Their family network helps patients and families with hereditary blindness, provides support and visual aids, and fosters communication between researchers and doctors all over the world.

THE HISTORIC LAFAYETTE HOTEL

Built in a grand colonial style in 1946 by former car dealer and developer Larry Imig, The Lafayette Hotel opened along California Highway 80. With a little bit of risk and a whole lot of resolve, Imig leveraged his well-honed skills as an entrepreneur, home builder, and flirt to kick start the celebrity cult and turn the hotel into one that “everyone knows about.” The hotel quickly became a legacy vacation resort and hideaway to stars like Bob Hope, Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardner.

In the 40’s and 50’s, the hotel boasted 24 shops, 4 restaurants, a nightclub, and 250 guest rooms, suites, & apartments. During the 50s, hotelier and San Diego Charger owner Conrad Hilton purchased the Lafayette Hotel and made many changes to the buildings and the façade.

The 60’s ushered in more change as Interstate 8 was completed redirecting automobile traffic away from The Boulevard. With it came a sharp decrease in hotel occupancy. Over the next several decades, the Lafayette saw a shift in both ownership and appearance at the hands of visionaries looking to restore the historic hotel to its former glory.

In 2004, as part of an urban redevelopment project, a plan was put in place to redevelop the property and uncover the rich spirit of its 65-year long history. The vibrant soul of the complex has been reinstated and its legacy as a vacation resort has come back to life.

AFTER PARTY AT THE RED FOX ROOM

Join us for our after party with a no-host bar and live entertainment. Round out your evening with fellow Urban Optiks customers, vendors and staff as we “Raise Our Glasses” for one final toast and celebrate another successful event!

The Red Fox Room was an old inn in Surrey, England and dates from around 1560. The three original rooms were combined to form a spacious “tap room.” The bar, back bar and the trim around the doors with the interesting small-carved figures come from Charles of London. The Tudor paneling and the fireplace with its finely carved mantel bear the date of 1642. The three arched panels tell the story of Rebecca and Isaac as found in the book of Genesis.

The room was originally dismantled in 1926 and shipped to the United States for the petite, blonde cinema actress Marion Davies, who was at the height of her career popularity, and completely rebuilt as her “Ocean House.” During the 50’s, the property was sold and was converted into a hotel. Some time later, the Red Fox Room was again dismantled and placed in storage. It is from this source that the Red Fox finally found its resting place in the Lafayette Hotel in San Diego to once again be admired as such a beautiful room should be.
